Marine Anodes for Hulls, Motors and Mounts

Salt water is tough on boats. It speeds up wear and can mess with parts you don’t always see. That’s why having the right protection below the waterline makes all the difference.

This range includes block anodes, engine pencil types and skeg models for marine setups. Each one suits different shapes and sizes, with options made to mount on hulls, engines and brackets.

What are boat anodes and what do they do?

Boat anodes are made from soft metals like zinc, aluminium or magnesium. They’re built to corrode first so they take the damage before your prop, skeg or other underwater metal parts.

This helps stop galvanic corrosion. That happens when two different metals are in contact and submerged. Boats have a mix of metal parts that connect through water, like shafts, brackets and mounts. When these metals react, one will start to break down faster. Anodes act as a sacrificial layer and absorb the damage to protect the rest.

How often should boat anodes be replaced?

Check your anodes regularly. If they’re half gone or full of pits, it’s time for a new one. Boats that stay in the water will need them changed more often.

If your anode looks smooth or stops corroding, that’s a problem. It means the surface is blocked and it’s no longer doing the job. Swap it out so your underwater gear stays protected.

Can I use zinc anodes on an aluminium boat?

You can use zinc, but it’s not always the best pick. Zinc works well in salt water but doesn’t perform as well if you move between water types.

Aluminium anodes are often better for aluminium boats. They last longer in mixed conditions and protect fittings more evenly. They’re also lighter and easier to mount in some shapes and sizes.

How do I clean boat anodes?

You can clean light buildup with a wire brush. That helps keep the surface active so it keeps doing its job. Just give it a scrub when you check the hull or during regular maintenance.

Never paint or coat your anodes. If they look glazed or stop corroding, they’re not working. At that point, it’s better to replace them than risk damage to your gear.
