Picnic Tables

A fold down picnic table is a simple way to add comfort and convenience to your caravan setup. It gives you a sturdy surface for meals, games, or relaxing outdoors without taking up extra space. When you’re done, you can fold it back in and lock it.

These tables are built to be lightweight and practical while staying strong enough for everyday use. Whether you’re enjoying breakfast by the beach or setting up at a campsite, a fold down picnic table makes life on the road that much easier.

How to Install a Caravan Picnic Table

Installing a caravan picnic table is a straightforward process when done carefully. Follow these steps to ensure a secure and durable setup, using the Outback Explorer Picnic Table as a guide.

Note: Always check the weight capacity (up to 25kg spread evenly) and inspect the installation regularly to ensure durability.

Tools You’ll Need:

  • Drill and drill bits
  • Pencil
  • Measuring tape
  • Screwdriver
  • Masking tape
  • Silicone/sealant (suitable for your caravan wall)
  • Cleaning cloth

Step 1: Prepare the Table and Your Tools

Before starting, check the table kit for all parts, including the picnic table, screws, backing plate, and double-sided tape. Use masking tape to cover the rivets on the back of the table frame. This prevents scratches on your caravan wall while positioning the table.

Step 2: Choose the Table’s Position

Decide where to install your caravan fold down table. Use points like the wheel spats or a window edge to measure the preferred height. Draw a straight guideline with a pencil to keep the installation level. Make sure no electrical wires, plumbing, or hazards are in the area you plan to drill.

Step 3: Mark and Drill Pilot Holes

Hold the table against your guideline and mark the screw holes with a pencil. Drill small pilot holes where marked, ensuring you don’t drill through the wall. The size of the holes will depend on the wall material, such as fibreglass, aluminium, or steel.

Step 4: Apply Silicone/Sealant

Add a bead of silicone/sealant around the back edges of the frame and into the pilot holes. This ensures a waterproof seal and strengthens the hold.

Step 5: Attach the Table to the Wall

Align the table with the pilot holes and secure it with the screws provided. Tighten the screws firmly but avoid overtightening. Clean up any excess silicone/sealant that seeps out while tightening.

Step 6: Install the Backing Plate

With the table in the open position, apply the double-sided tape inside the frame. Add extra silicone/sealant in strategic areas for added strength. Align the backing plate carefully and press it into position.

Step 7: Final Touches

If desired, apply a thin silicone/sealant bead around the table’s edges for a clean finish and extra waterproofing. Allow the sealant to cure fully before driving or towing the caravan.

Opening and Closing the Table

  • To Open: Unlock the table with the keys, lower it gently, and ensure the side stays are locked into place.
  • To Close: Release the stays, fold the table upward, press it firmly against the wall, and lock it using the keys. Always lock the table before travelling.
