How to Install a Fridge Slide
Installing a fridge slide is simple with the right tools and a bit of patience, but for best results, it’s best to have it done by an expert. If you'd prefer to do it yourself:
-
Measure the Space: Measure the space in your 4WD or ute to ensure the fridge slide will fit perfectly. Also, be sure to measure your fridge and the tray size of the slide to ensure it also fits.
-
Mark the Mounting Points: Place the fridge slide in the desired location and mark the mounting points on the base. Ensure you always check the underside of your marked locations before drilling to prevent drilling into other components.
-
Grab a helping hand: Grab a helping hand to hold the slide in the desired position and cycle through the range of motion to ensure clearances of all parts of the vehicle.
-
Drill Holes: Use a drill to make holes for the bolts at the marked points.
-
Secure the Fridge Slide: Attach the fridge slide to the base using the provided bolts and nuts. Make sure it is level and tightly secured.
-
Attach the Fridge: Place the fridge onto the slide, ensuring it is properly aligned. Secure it with straps or locking mechanisms.
-
Test the Slide: Slide the fridge in and out to ensure it moves smoothly and locks securely in both open and closed positions.
-
Regular Checks: Regularly check the bolts and moving parts for any signs of wear or loosening. Keep the slide well-lubricated to ensure long-lasting performance.
What are the benefits of a drop-down fridge slide compared to a standard fridge slide?
A drop-down fridge slide lowers your fridge to an easy-to-reach height, making it ideal for taller vehicles like 4WDs or utes with canopies. This makes loading and unloading much easier, especially if your fridge is stored high. Standard slides are better for lower setups as they are lighter, simpler, and take up less space, but they don’t offer the same accessibility.
How do I prevent a fridge slide from rattling or shifting while driving?
To stop rattling, make sure all bolts are tightened securely, and check them regularly. Use straps or locking mechanisms to hold the fridge firmly in place. Adding rubber pads under the slide can also reduce vibrations and noise on rough tracks.
